The New Altima Signals a Bright Future for Nissan
Back in March, we told you Nissan was busy getting ready to launch the all-new Altima at the New York Auto Show. Well, the show has come and gone, and we're all very excited to tell you more about the next-generation of this top-selling sedan. Connell Nissan isn't alone in this, either. Cars.com editors have recently pegged the new Altima as the car that will unseat the long-reigning champ of sedans: the Camry.
Maybe that's a bold statement. Maybe. But we should probably tell you that the 2012 Nissan Altima, (pre-redesign) has fallen short of the Cylindrical T in sales by just 10,000 units as of March. So what is it about the all-new Altima will help it pull ahead?
Let's start with an EPA-estimed 27 mpg city/38 mpg highway. And then we should probably mention all of the quality interior and exterior design elements that went into building the new Altima. Finally, the well-equipped Altima S will run about $22,500 - a price that should bring in a lot of potential customers.
Kelsey Mays, a Cars.com analyst explains, "Overall, with the improving economy, we expect 2012 new car sales to jump roughly 15 percent over 2011. Taking the redesign of the Altima into account, we'd expect the 2013 Altima to outsell its 2012 predecessor by 39 percent by year's end, 24 percentage points above our expected market growth."1
Mays also predicts that as Nissan continues to close the sales gap, we'll see the two automakers in a tight competition by year's end. For you, the consumer, this opens up the possibility of some exciting packages and financing incentives.
